The Nha Trang City swimming tournament 2013 was held by Nha Trang Culture – Sports Center on August 25 at the swimming pool of Vien Dong Hotel. The tournament was joined by 190 male and female athletes from 11 communes, wards, and schools in the city. The athletes, born from 1998 to 2005, divided into 4 age groups, competed in 2 events: breaststroke and freestyle at a distance of 25m and 50m.

This year’s swimming tournament for teenagers and children attracted attendance and interest from pupils and the parents in the city. Besides the trained young athletes from swimming teams of communes and wards in the city, there were some free players who were overseas ones.

“In order to create an ebullient atmosphere, the organization board encouraged all of teenagers and children in the city to take part in the tournament. Therefore, about 2 or 3 overseas families registered to join the event,” said Mr. Tran Tung Han, Deputy Director of Nha Trang Culture – Sports Center.

The attendance of overseas players partly made the competing atmosphere more ebullient. Mrs. Le Thanh Mai, an overseas Vietnamese in France, said “This was a useful and attractive playground. In foreign countries, whenever taking part in any tournament, the participants have to exercise and compete stressfully. However, this tournament brought a comfortable atmosphere to players.”

Reportedly, today, the playground for swimming in the province has still many limits. There are about 3, 4 swimming pools in the province, which are under the management of hotels. The fee for summer swimming classes is rather high (from VND680,000 to VND800,000/person/session), resulting in a few followers.

Consequently, the presence of swimming in the system of movement sports tournament for teenagers and children will partly promote the development of swimming in the localities in the province.
