Khanh Hoa badminton tournament 2013, the last sport of Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Festival, took place from September 19 to 22 in provincial Sports Competition House. The tournament was joined by over 200 athletes from 9 teams, including Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa, Van Ninh, Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa Youth Union, Provincial Communist Union and Khanh Hoa Labour Federation. The athletes, divided into age groups from 11 to over 51, competed in 27 events.
According to the organization board, this year’s tournament had some new points. For example, the number of competition event increased from 20 to 27; the limitation in hiring, borrowing semiprofessional athletes from other provinces, cities was applied. 2 new events was added to the competition events for age group of 30 to 40, including men’s singles, women’s singles instead of 3 ones (men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles) like previous years.

In addition, this year, the 3 events of men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles went official for athletes over 51 years old, creating an opportunity for the old players to show their passion.
Reportedly, the badminton movement among athletes of 30 to over 51 years old has well developed in most of localities and clubs in the province. Those athletes also gained Khanh Hoa badminton quite a lot medals in national badminton tournaments. Therefore, the attendance of them made this year’s tournament more ebullient.
This year’s tournament had a strong competition, resulting from the investment in both quantity and quality of the participating units. The units having the largest number of players were Nha Trang (44 players), Ninh Hoa (30 players), Van Ninh (28 players) and Cam Ranh (34 players).
“This will be a good opportunity for me to learn competition experience from the elder players,” 9-year-old player Nguyen Tan Quoc from Ninh Hoa gifted team said in his first time joining the provincial playground.
According to referee Hoang Hiep, in previous years, Nha Trang team were the champion candidate thanks to its largest number of players and prominent professional quality. However, this year, the professional skill gap among athletes was narrower, making the competition atmosphere more attractive and ebullient.
