The Nha Trang City couple badminton tournament, taking place from May 20 to 23 at Nha Trang Sports Training and Competing Center, created its own appeal and helped to maintain the development of this sport in Khanh Hoa Province.
The Nha Trang City couple badminton tournament, taking place from May 20 to 23 at Nha Trang Sports Training and Competing Center, created its own appeal and helped to maintain the development of this sport in Khanh Hoa Province.
100 players from 21 communes and wards in the province and one invited unit (provincial Police team) attended the sports event. The players competed in men’s couple and women’s couple.
On the opening day, hundreds of athletes and spectators came and joined the tournament, creating an ebullient atmosphere.
Reportedly, in order to increase the competitiveness and professional quality of the tournament, the participating units selected athletes from the strong badminton clubs in the province, such as For Gia, Sao Bien, Hanh Tinh Xanh and Ly Ly. Therefore, although that was just a movement tournament at the city level, the athletes showed a high determination and competitiveness in each match. The outstanding teams like Phuoc Long, Loc Tho, Vinh Hiep and Ngoc Hiep had a good preparation in the athlete force.

According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, director of Nha Trang City Culture – Sports Center, the badminton together with other sports activities have been maintained quite well. Every year, about one or two movement tournaments are held to create a useful playground for the athletes. Those tournaments are also a chance to check and evaluate the operating quality of this sport in the localities. Through those tournaments, the organization board often selects the excellent athletes to form the city’s badminton team which often competes at the provincial tournaments and gains many good achievements.
Nha Trang City is now one of the localities which have the most developed badminton movement in Khanh Hoa Province. About 500 regular followers often practice at 25 badminton clubs in the city. In the two recent years, Nha Trang City badminton team always wins first prize for the whole group at the provincial tournament.
While there are still many difficulties (such as lack of operating funds and human resources), the badminton movement in Nha Trang City in general and the city couple badminton tournament in particular have been the driving force helping to maintain the stable development of this sport in Khanh Hoa Province.
