The U17 National Basketball Tournament – Cool Air Cup (Southern region) has created an opportunity for Khanh Hoa basketball to learn and exchange competition experience.
Basketball movement has had a quite strong development in many places across the country, especially in Southern provinces like Can Tho, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. Beside having made investment for the provincial teams to gain medals at the national tournaments, these provinces have also focused in training the young athletes. Therefore, the annual U17 national basketball tournament is a useful playground which helps to promote the development of this sport in the localities as well as to discover the young talents for the national team.

The basketball movement in Khanh Hoa Province has been maintained quite regularly in many units, localities of which the most prominent is Nha Trang City. Every year, the Nha Trang City Culture – Sports Center often holds from one to two open tournaments for ages in order to create the playgrounds for this sport’s lovers. In recent three years, Khanh Hoa Province has also maintained the development of the U17 male and female basketball teams to compete at the Southern – Central tournament. At the U17 National Basketball Tournament – Cool Air Cup (Southern region), the host Khanh Hoa set a target of learning and exchanging experience. Because of the wide gap in quality between the athletes in Khanh Hoa Province and others. Both Khanh Hoa’s male and female teams did not perform well and their journey at the tournament ended at the group stage.
This year’s tournament attracted the attendance of over 200 athletes from eleven male teams and five female ones coming from the high schools, sports training centers and localities in the Southern and Central region. After four days of competition, the male and female teams of Can Tho Province won the championship.
This tournament showed the maturity of the basketball teams of the Southern region as well as a quite good development of this sport in the provinces, cities and units in the region. This was also an opportunity for the localities like Khanh Hoa's basketball to gain experience.
