Taking place from July 16 to 20 at the beach opposing 62 Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang City, the beach handball tournament was joined by eight men’s and women’s teams from the units and localities in the country, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Giang, Binh Dinh, Yen Bai and the host Khanh Hoa.
According to the professionals, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi were the two outstanding teams which were competitive for the golden medal thanks to their good investment in this sport. Besides, most of the athletes who join the national handball team competing at Asian beach games were from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Therefore, the teams reaching the final at both men’s and women’s event were Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. The teams competed for each point, providing the audience thrilling and exciting moments.
Finally, both men’s and women’s teams of Hanoi won the championship of the tournament.
“This is the first time handball was set up as a sport in the National Sports Festival. Beside the purpose of checking and evaluating the quality of the participants and the development of this sport in the localities, the tournament aims to select the outstanding athletes for the national handball team to prepare for the upcoming Asia beach game 2014 in Thailand and 2016 in Nha Trang City,” Dao Duc Kien, Secretary General of Vietnam Handball Federation, said.
Reportedly, the beach handball has had a good development in Vietnam. The female national team is now among top teams in Asia while the male team ranks 13. Through this tournament, Vietnam Handball Federation will offer a better investment for the national teams to maintain their performances, and especially help male team to promote to top 10.
