Khanh Hoa badminton tournament for ages 2014, taking place from July 23 to 27, received a high evaluation from the professionals. The tournament showed a good investment from many units and localities for the athletes, especially the young ones.

This year’s tournament attracted over 300 athletes from many localities in the province (Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Ninh Hoa, Cam Ranh, Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh and Van Ninh) and three invited units (Vietnam Youth Union of Khanh Hoa Province, the provincial Land Fund Development Center, the provincial Department of Justice).

The athletes were divided into seven age groups and competed in two main events: men’s/women’s individual and men’s/women’s group.

Beside the purpose of checking and evaluating the quality of athletes and the development of badminton movement in the localities, the organization board also created a useful playground for this sport’s lovers.

Over-30-year-old athletes are now main force of badminton movement in Khanh Hoa Province.

The 2014 tournament also saw a better preparation from the professional divisions. Specifically, in order to prevent the phenomena of trying to get “virtual achievement”, the participating units were not allowed to hire and borrow semiprofessional athletes from the provinces and cities having strong development of badminton. The events of the tournament were also divided into various age groups to encourage the units to invest in depth.

Reportedly, the badminton movement in Khanh Hoa Province has a quite strong development. However, the main force who gained medals for Khanh Hoa sports delegation at regional and national tournaments were over-30-year-old athletes. Meanwhile, the young players (teenagers and children) have had not good achievements at those tournaments.

However, according to the professionals, this year’s tournament showed that the localities paid more interest and investment in the young athletes. Some of the outstanding teams at this tournament were Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh and Ninh Hoa. At the men’s double event for 16-to-30-year-old athletes, Dien Khanh’s couple excellently won the championship although they were evaluated as the weakest one.

The deep investment in the young athletes of some units and localities not only has improved the professional quality of the players but also promoted the badminton movement in Khanh Hoa Province.
