The Nha Trang City basketball championships for men's and women's teenagers and children, taking place from August 8 to 10 at Nha Trang City Sports Training and Competing Center, was really a useful playground for the young people in the city.

Despite the sweltering summer, the atmosphere in the basketball’s competition area of Nha Trang City Sports Training and Competing Center was boisterous and bustling thanks to the enthusiastic cheer from the audience and exciting matches of the city basketball championships for men’s and women’s teenagers and children.
A part from 21 men’s and women’s teenage teams, this year’s tournament saw the first attendance of the players who were children. The expansion of participants aimed to create positive effects on the maintenance and development of basketball in the city. Because, through competing in the city tournaments, the children have opportunity not only to enjoy playful time and show their love for basketball but also to train the competition mentality.

After three days of taking place, at children’s event, Phuong Son Ward won the championship; Phuoc Hoa Ward gained second prize while Xuan Huan Ward and Vinh Phuoc Ward got the third prize. At the event of teenagers, Xuan Huan’s female team and Phuoc Dong’s male team bagged the highest prize; Vinh Hiep’s female team and Van Thanh’s male team placed second; the third prize belonged to Ngoc Hiep’s and Van Thanh’s female team, Ngoc Hiep’s and Vinh Hiep’s male team.
Although basketball was just added to the sports movement in Khanh Hoa Province for nearly 10 years, it attracted many young people, especially the pupils. Nha Trang City is considered as the pioneer among the localities in the province in maintaining and developing this sport. This was showed through the regular playgrounds (basketball championship and city basketball open tournament) held by the city with the stable number of participants.
According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Director of Nha Trang City Culture - Sports Center, head of organization board of Nha Trang City basketball championships for men’s and women’s teenagers and children, the tournament always creates its own attraction compared to other sports ones held for the pupils in the summer. Specifically, the six tournaments held from 2012 until 2014 attracted a large number of participants from 21 teams in the localities and schools in the city and guest teams from Ninh Hoa Town, Dien Khanh District and Cam Ranh City.
