Wining golden medal at the national table-tennis championship 2014, senior athlete Doan Kien Quoc, 36, the pride of Khanh Hoa’s table-tennis, brought pleasure to the province’s sports once again.
The national table-tennis championship - Nhandan Newspaper, first held in 1982, has been considered as the most prestigious tournament with highest quality of Vietnam’s table-tennis. This year’s tournament took place from September 6 to 9 in Dak Lak, attended by 92 strong athletes of 14 provinces and cities in the country. Apart from evaluating the training quality, the tournament was also an opportunity for Vietnam Table-Tennis Federation to discover talents for the national team.
Since returning and playing for Khanh Hoa’s sport delegation, Kien Quoc has been expected to help Khanh Hoa team to maintain its position as one of strong table-tennis teams in Vietnam. In respond to that expectation, Kien Quoc did his duties very well.

In this year’s tournament, Khanh Hoa team competed in two events: men’s team and single. At men’s couple, Khanh Hoa’s athlete couple lost to other strong couples of Hanoi, Army and Ho Chi Minh City. However, at men’s single, Kien Quoc, with age comes wisdom, satisfied the fans when defeating young athlete of Army team in the dramatic final match.
According to Nguyen Minh Dat - deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Technique Training Center, head of Khanh Hoa table-tennis delegation, this year’s championship had the highest professional quality compared to that in previous years thanks to the participation of most of excellent athletes of Vietnam. This tournament was a step for the sports delegations across the country to prepare for the upcoming National Sports Festival.
“I highly appreciated Kien Quoc’s achievement at this tournament. At age of 36, Kien Quoc’s sports career is near its end; however, with his high energies and determination, he offered good performances and deserved the win. Khanh Hoa’s golden medal earned by Kien Quoc at this tournament not only helps Khanh Hoa's table-tennis team to be qualified for the next National Sports Festival but also are a driving force for the young athletes to strive for this sport’s development, ” Dat added.
