In the upcoming National Sports Festival, the target set for Khanh Hoa taekwondo team is gaining at least one golden medal. However, with quite good investment for young athletes and some outstanding players, Khanh Hoa taekwondo is expected to gain more achievement.

Among martial arts in Khanh Hoa Province, taekwondo is one of sports which have done many contributions to Khanh Hoa sports in the national tournaments. In 2014, taking part in two tournaments including national taekwondo championships for students and national taekwondo championships for young players, the provincial taekwondo team achieved 39 medals of all kinds (15 golden medals, 12 silver ones and 12 bronze ones).

It was remarkable that most of the athletes who gain high achievements at those tournaments were one aged from 12 to 20. Some of the outstanding athletes were Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly, Nguyen Le Cam Tu, Nguyen Thi Phong Van, Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, Phung Thi Len and Tran Thi Thanh. The three athletes of Khanh Hoa, namely Dan Phuong, Phuong Nam and Khanh Ly, were also selected to play for the national taekwondo team.

All these achievements not only have asserted the position of Khanh Hoa taekwondo but also are driving force helping the provincial team to exceed the target set for the seventh National Sports Festival.

According to Van Thanh Danh, coach of Khanh Hoa Provincial taekwondo team, in the common ground of taekwondo in Vietnam, Khanh Hoa taekwondo now is not strong as other provinces, cities and industries like Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Misistry of Public Security. However, in some events and weight divisions, since 2011, Khanh Hoa’s athletes showed excellent performances and were competitive ones for golden medals in many national tournaments.

In addition, thanks to the attention as well as the investment from the provincial Sports Training and Competing Center, in 2014, provincial taekwondo team had opportunities to exchange and learn experience in many tournaments. Some outstanding athletes were sent to take part in training courses and compete with athletes of the national team at the National Sports Training Center in Da Nang Province and the National Defense Sports Center 2 (Military Zone 7). Those training courses were also good opportunity for Khanh Hoa’s athletes to learn new technique and skills from Korean coach (national team’s coach).

It can be said that with all those achievements together with investment and careful preparation, taekwondo team promises to bring more medals to Khanh Hoa’s sports delegation in the next National Sports Festival.
