Reportedly, this tournament draw a large number of participants with many strong teams in the country such as Police, Army, Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang and Hai Duong. Besides, many units sent to the tournament young excellent athletes who were well trained abroad and have recently had good performances at the domestic and international tournaments, including To Duc Hoang, Dao Duy Hoang, Nguyen Thanh Luan, etc.

At this tournament, Khanh Hoa’s table-tennis team set a modest target of gaining medals of any type. According to Nguyen Minh Dat, Deputy Director being in charge of speciality of the provincial Sports Technique Training Center, head of table-tennis delegation, at this year’s tournament, Khanh Hoa’s table-tennis team only hoped to gain the best possible achievements because of some present difficulties relating to young athletes and training funds, etc. Those achievements can be the motive power to build up a force of young athletes who will be competitive for medals at the next national sports festivals. Therefore, the athletes of Khanh Hoa took part in competitions without any pressure and gained encouraging achievements.

The key players of Khanh Hoa table-tennis team were still the threesome Doan Kien Quoc, Doan Trong Nghia and Nguyen Cao Dung. In the men’s singles, Doan Kien Quoc with his long-time experience overcame many young, excellent athletes from other units to enter the final match. Finally, Quoc came second after losing to player Tran Tuan Quynh (Hanoi). The athlete couple Kien Quoc – Trong Nghia also performed quite well when bringing a bronze medal for Khanh Hoa delegation in the men’s team event.

According to Nguyen Minh Dat, this was considered as a good achievement and an encouraging result of Khanh Hoa table-tennis at this tournament if compared with the investment of Tien Giang or the force of high quality athletes of the host Hai Duong winning one bronze only.
