According to Nguyen Thanh Nhan, deputy director of Ninh Hoa Town Culture & Sports Center (the organization unit of the race), about 16 teams registered to participate in the competition with some events such as men’s single, women’s single, men’s double, etc. at a distance from 300m to 600m.
This is the second time the boat race has been organized in Ninh Hoa Town on Tet occasion. The first race held in 2014 and joined by 12 teams received a tremendous cheer from over 2000 audiences. This activity has been enthusiastically supported and created a cheerful atmosphere for the locals on New Year festival. It also aims to promote the boating movement across the town; helps the youth to have opportunity to join a useful competition as well as to stay healthy or to improve health.
This year’s race has a new thing compared to the old one, which is the flower boat competition taking place before the main race. The teams will decorate their boats with flowers and introduce to the audiences the tradition and specific characteristics of their locality.
Reportedly, the life of people living in the riverside area of Dinh River in Ninh Hoa Town has been associated with activities on the river. Therefore, the Dinh River boat race has been considered as a unique traditional cultural feature of Ninh Hoa Town.
