As usual, after Tet holiday, Nha Trang Center of Culture and Sports often holds some movement sports tournaments, among them is the three-on-three basketball tournament, in order to create a useful playground for young people in the city.

After the successful organization of the first tournament held in 2014, the Nha Trang three-on-three basketball tournament 2015 continued to receive the enthusiastic response and participation of a large number of young people. The 3x3 basketball rules are basically not different from the ones in normal basketball which is played with five athletes in each team. However, there are some departures from regular full-court basketball. For example, the 3x3 basketball matches only take place in half court, with one basket; the game has three 5-minute sets and no technical time–out. However, at the 2015 tournament, the sets were added five minutes each and the technical time–out was also allowed.
According to the professionals, the rhythm of the matches of the 3x3 basketball is faster than the ones of normal basketball. The players can move quickly from the defensive zone to the attack zone, making this type of basketball become more attractive.
This year’s tournament was joined by 9 men’s teams and 3 women’s ones from communes and wards in the city. The men’s teams were divided into three groups and competed in a round robin format; the women’s teams also competed in a round robin format to determine the champion based on the points.
According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, director of Nha Trang Center of Culture and Sports, although the 3x3 basketball tournament has just been organized recently and most of the participating teams have been formed spontaneously, it still maintained the number of participants, showing the development of this sport.
“This year’s tournament is joined by many young players at the ages from 15 to 17. This shows that this sport has created an attraction among young people. I hope that the tournament will be maintained so that I and my friends can have opportunity to show our passion,” said Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem, a third-year student of Van Lang University.
It can be said that with the tournament held by Nha Trang Center of Culture and Sports, the three-on-three basketball movement in particular and Nha Trang basketball movement in general have been being maintained sustainably, creating a useful playground for young people in Nha Trang City.
