The Nha Trang City traditional athletics tournament held annually has not only created a playground for the pupils of the schools in the city but also partly "held fire" for the athletics movement in Khanh Hoa Province.
The Nha Trang City traditional athletics tournament held annually has not only created a playground for the pupils of the schools in the city but also partly “held fire” for the athletics movement in Khanh Hoa Province.
This year’s tournament took place on April 5, drawing the participation of over 500 players at all ages from 37 communes, wards and elementary schools in Nha Trang City. The 2015 tournament also saw an increase in number of participants compared to previous years. This means that the athletics movement in Nha Trang City has been regularly maintained and had developed strongly.

The players were divided into three age groups and competed in the events, including 1km distance for children, 2km distance for teenagers and 4km distance for men’s and women’s championship.
Among the three events, the competition of the most excellent players of elementary schools attracted most interest. According to the organization board, the teams from elementary schools such as Phuoc Thinh, Vinh Luong, Vinh Thanh and Phuoc Dong have had quite good athletics movement. These schools have also had many new promising athletes sent to the provincial athletics team.
Vo Thi Sau Secondary School, Phuoc Long Ward, was also a familiar unit at the city athletics tournament. During more than ten years, this school has always gained high achievements at the event of teenagers.
Finally, organization board gave six sets of medals to excellent individuals. At the event of children, Phuoc Thinh Elementary School won the first prize for whole team; Vinh Thanh School and Phuoc Dong School got the second and third prize respectively. Vo Thi Sau Secondary School achieved first prize at the teenagers’ event while Vinh Luong Commune placed first at the event of championship.
According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports, among the movement sports activities held in Nha Trang City, the athletics is the one which has most attraction. This has been showed through the year-by-year increase number of participants. Although there has had some financial difficulties, the city traditional athletics tournament has still been organized regularly. This will create a driving force to develop this sport in Khanh Hoa Province.
