Being one of the few quality sports tournaments in Khanh Hoa Province, the traditional martial arts tournament for ages has not only been a useful playground for clubs’ athletes but also contributed to promote the traditional martial arts movement in the units and localities.

Khanh Hoa traditional martial arts tournament for ages 2015 took place at the provincial Sports Competition House in early June. 130 athletes of 10 groups, divided into ages and weight categories, competed in two events: demonstration and combat.

According to the professionals, the tournament of traditional martial arts has drawn the most attention among the martial arts included in the competition system of the provincial sports industry. This is due to the sustainable number of participating units and the increasing quality of the tournament. In the past, the tournament only aimed to maintain the movement sports activity and mainly focused on demonstration event. However, in recent two years, there have been more and more participants joining the tournament and many of them paid more attention to the combat event.

Beside familiar participating units and localities (Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Van Ninh, traditional martial arts club of Ton Duc Thang University, provincial police, etc.), this year’s tournament saw the first attendance of the provincial Military Headquarters. According to Nguyen Kim Huy, member of provincial Military Headquarters team, the traditional martial arts movement has been developing strongly among the military force. After a long time of preparation, the traditional martial arts club of provincial Military Headquarters was officially formed in mid-2014. With a high determination, team of provincial Military Headquarters got an encouraging achievement with the second prize for whole group.

“In recent years, the traditional martial arts in general and traditional martial arts tournament in particular has received positive supports from the provincial sports industry. That has created favorable conditions and good foundation for the development of the provincial traditional martial arts movement as well as provincial team at professional tournaments,” said martial arts instructor Ly Hoang Tuan, chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Martial Arts Association.

Reportedly, at the seventh National Sports Festival held in Nam Dinh in 2014, traditional martial arts was one of few high-achievement sports of Khanh Hoa which gained medals (one golden, two silvers and four bronzes).
