Khanh Hoa three-cushion carom billiards open tournament for the Central and Highlands region - ASIA Cup, taking place in October 21-24, was considered as a opportunity for Khanh Hoa to review its billiard movement.

Khanh Hoa has been evaluated as one of the localities having a quite strong billiard movement. This has been shown through the number of billiard players and clubs across the province. Every year, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism associated with the sponsors to organize the billiards open tournament with the participation of many athletes in and outside the province. Many billiard players represented Khanh Hoa to take part in the tournaments held in the country. However, Khanh Hoa has still not had deep investments in billiards like other localities.

In order to evaluate the billiard movement in the province, this year, Khanh Hoa held an open tournament which aimed to focus more on the professional quality by delimiting the regions (the Central and Highlands region) and competing events. In 2013 and 2014, there were around 100 to 150 athletes from 15 – 20 units, provinces, cities and industries over the country taking part in the tournaments which included events of one-cushion carom and three-cushion carom, etc. At the 2015 tournament, there were only 68 players of ten units and clubs in the Central and Highlands region, competing in only one event: three-cushion carom.

At this year tournament, most of Khanh Hoa’s players could not overcome their rivals in the preliminary round. Phung Tan Nguyen was the only one athlete of Khanh Hoa who entered the final match. Finally, Tan Nguyen got silver medal after being defeated by Duy Trung from Da Nang.

According to Truong Tan Tam, Head of ASIA Billiard Club, member of the organization board, the results of the 2015 tournament reflected the skills of billiard athletes in Khanh Hoa in particular and in the Central – Highlands region in general. The victory of Da Nang’s athlete asserted the strength of this locality in three-cushion billiards.

“Through the tournament, it can be said that Khanh Hoa is still one of the three localities which have had strong movement of three-cushion billiards. This will be a driving force for Khanh Hoa’s billiard athletes to keep training and competing in order to improve the professional skills and prepare for the future tournaments,” Tam added.
