Through 15 years of organization, Khanh Hoa badminton clubs open tournament is really a useful playground which has contributed to promote the development of badminton movement in Khanh Hoa.
The Khanh Hoa badminton clubs open tournament, running from October 30 to November 1 at the provincial Sports Competition House, drawing the attendance of over 300 athletes of 27 teams in and outside the province. The athletes were divided into groups of age and competed for 17 sets of medals in the events of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. This year’s tournament saw an increase in number of teams from other provinces and cities (18 teams compared to 10-12 teams in previous years).

Apart from the localities which have strong badminton movement and often take part in Khanh Hoa badminton clubs open tournament (Hanh Tinh Xanh Club, Hoang Hoa Tham (Khanh Hoa), Ninh Thuan, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City), the 2015 tournament was also joined by many new athletes and clubs from Da Nang. This was a good opportunity for Khanh Hoa’s athletes to learn and exchange experience.
According to Pham Duy Hung, head of Hoang Hoa Tham Club team, in the Central and Highlands region in particular and Vietnam in general, Khanh Hoa has been evaluated as one of the localities having strong badminton movement with quite good quality. However, at the present, Khanh Hoa’s badminton is only competitive at the events for above-40-years-old athletes. At the events for athletes aged from 16 to 30, there has been still a huge quality gap between the athletes of Khanh Hoa and the ones from other localities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Lam Dong.
However, reportedly, Khanh Hoa’s young players showed a marked progress at this year’s tournament. Specifically, at the men’s doubles for athletes aged under 30, some athletes of Khanh Hoa, namely Huynh Ngoc Hien (Anh Duong Club), Vo Van Thanh and Nguyen Thanh Trung (Hoang Hoa Tham), overcame other strong players of Da Nang and Dak Lak to win the golden medal.
