Through tens of sports tournaments held every year, the quality of the sports movement in Nha Trang City has been increasingly improved, having significantly contributed to the development of the sports industry of Khanh Hoa Province.

In 2015, the number of people and families playing sports exceeds the target of 35% of people and 41% of families. According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports, the above results are thanks to the fact that the city has paid attention on organizing the movement sports playgrounds regularly and improving the quality of these tournaments.

In the section of movement sports, in 2015, the city Center of Culture and Sports held 48 tournaments, exceeding the target by 209 per cent. The tournaments were joined by thousands of players and created cheerful and exciting competing atmosphere among the participating units. In addition, on the occasions of main events of country and province, the center also associated with the organizations and departments in the city and province to organize successfully many events, attracting a large number of participants. For example, during the Sea Festival 2015, the center mobilized more than 6,000 people to take part in the cheerleading, basket swinging, fishing competition to protect the marine ecology, etc. The activities helped to introduce and popularize the images of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa.

Beside maintaining the sports tournaments, every year, the center also focuses on recruiting, training and sending the athletes to provincial-level and national-level tournaments in order to promote the sports movement’s quality. Through the tournaments held at the city-level, the center trained 245 athletes (reaching 147 per cent of the target); recruited and sent sports teams to 16 provincial-level tournaments; sent 50 athletes to national tournaments. Among the sports units, the city branch of martial arts is the most outstanding one. Reportedly, up till now, Nha Trang has over 70 clubs and dojos followed by more than 3,000 regular practicers (the number of practicers was up to 4,000 to 5,000 in the summer).

According to the sports industry, the martial arts movement, especially the traditional martial arts, has strongly developed not only in the center area of the city but also in surrounding areas, such as Vinh Phuong, Vinh Luong, Phuoc Dong, Hon Ro and Vinh Diem Trung. In 2015, many athletes of the city branch of traditional martial arts took part in the national tournaments and tournament of the Central region and achieved 87 medals.

Beside the positive results, the sports movement’s quality in Nha Trang City has still been uneven. Some localities in the city, specially the suburbs, have had difficulties in funding and facilities. Therefore, in order to further develop the sports movement, Nha Trang City’s sports industry planed to keep upholding the existing achievements and create more useful playgrounds as well as call for contribution from the sponsors and public through the form of socialization.
