The traditional martial arts clubs, dojos and associations in Nha Trang City have been busy preparing for the activities within the frameworks of cultural, sports and tourism activities to serve the locals and tourists during lunar New Year 2016.

As usual, Bich Quang Mon Dojo (Khanh Hoa Children’s House) under Tho Phuoc Duong Co., Ltd. will take part in human chess competition held at 2-4 Square. According to Doan Duc Phuoc, Head Coach of Bich Quang Mon Dojo, Deputy Chairman of the Unicorn – lion – dragon Dance Club of the provincial Cultural Center, around 40 traditional martial arts practicers will join the human chess competition from February 10 to 13.

In a human chess competition, the traditional martial arts practicers take the roles of the chess pieces, such as kings, cannons, knights, bishops, rooks and pawns. Reportedly, the traditional players who are qualified for the competition are the ones who have practiced traditional martial arts for many years and can use skillfully the weapons which are specific to each chess piece. The players will perform many beautiful skills of martial arts techniques during the competition. “The human chess competition is really a unique culture-sports activity to serve the locals and tourists on Tet occasion. This is also an effective way to introduce and popularize the traditional martial arts,” said Phuoc.

Apart from the human chess competition, the traditional martial arts will also leave its mark through the city unicorn-lion-dragon dance competition. Although this competition has been held annually in more than ten years, it has still created a big excited atmosphere whenever it takes place. This year’s competition is expected to take place from January 30 to February 2 with the participation of around 16 teams from 27 communes and wards in Nha Trang City.
