Keeping focusing on strong points of high-achievement sports

Khanh Hoa Province will keep focusing on investments for the strong points of high-achievement sports such as volleyball, athletics, table-tennis and martial arts, according to the plan for 2016 – 2020 period.

Khanh Hoa Province will keep focusing on investments for the strong points of high-achievement sports such as volleyball, athletics, table-tennis and martial arts, according to the plan for 2016 – 2020 period.

In 2015, most of high-achievement sports of Khanh Hoa completed and exceeded the target. This was also the grounds for the provincial sports industry to build up the plan for the new period. Nguyen Minh Dat, Deputy Director being in charge of specialty of the provincial Sports Technique Training Center, said that with the positive achievements of some high-achievement sports in 2015, the center would keep investing in these sports although some of them had not had quite good results and showed signs of slowdown.

According to Dat, at present, the athletics has still been one of the strong points of the province’s high achievement sports. Therefore, this sport needs to be given more investments so that it can be revived. Khanh Hoa’s athletics used to be outstanding with good achievements of Truc Van, Thu Lan, Ngoc Hanh, Khanh Doan, etc. at SEA Games. After that, the province’s athletics has gradually declined partly because the lack of national-level investment and diversity in race distances. Specifically, Khanh Hoa’s athletics has only focused on long-distance practicing, aiming for whole-team achievement at the domestic playgrounds. At the same time, many strong athletics teams sent their athletes overseas for training. Therefore, Khanh Hoa’s athletes have not been competitive in the national team.

Volleyball, another strong point of Khanh Hoa’s high-achievement sports, has not been more outstanding than other strong teams like Maseco Ho Chi Minh, Duc Long Gia Lai and Trang An Ninh Binh. In the first round of the national volleyball championship 2015, Sanest Khanh Hoa had to make a lot of exertion and only placed third in the group. However, in the second round, the team from the beach city made a spectator comeback with consecutive wins, entered the final round and won second prize. However, the province’s beach volleyball teams showed a sudden drop in performance. After many years being in the top at the national beach volleyball championships, Khanh Hoa’s beach volleyball only got two bronzes at the tournament held recently in Can Tho.

Last year, table-tennis and martial arts also gained many encouraging results. The provincial table-tennis team won four gold medals at the tournaments for strong players over the country. Traditional martial arts, taekwondo and karate earned more than 100 medals of all kinds for Khanh Hoa’s sports.

Those were positive signs for Khanh Hoa’s sports industry to keep investing in these sports.

Reportedly, tennis which used to be considered as a strong point of Khanh Hoa’s sports will not be among high-achievement sports anymore because of its not good results after many years of investment, according to the plan for new period.
