Nha Trang Chinese chess and chess championships for age groups 2016, the first movement sports activity in 2016, held by Nha Trang Center of Culture – Sports, took place in January 30 – 31. The tournament attracted a large number of participants.

More than 300 participants from 37 wards, communes and schools in the city were divided into groups of age. According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, the time at which the championships was organized (days preceding Lunar New Year) was favorable to aged people and pupils. Through the tournament, the most outstanding players will be selected to be trained for the provincial teams. 
 
Nha Trang Chinese chess and chess championships for age groups can be considered as a playground for everyone who loves this intellectual game. The 2016 tournament was joined by many senior players as well as young players who have just started playing Chinese chess and chess. Reportedly, the Chinese chess and chess clubs in the cities prepared carefully for the tournament. Nguyen Cao Cuong, Coach of chess club of Phuoc Tan II Primary School said that the good preparation of the participating teams helped to increase the tournament’s quality. Many new talented players were found at the 2016 championships.
 
The event of Chinese chess drew the participation of many well-known players of Khanh Hoa, such as Huynh Van Teo, Luong Hai Duong, Le Hung Son, Than Duc Cong and Le Thanh Dong. 
 
“Although my son only started playing chess around six months ago, he showed quite good performances with two wins. I will keep promoting his talent if he still has passion for chess,” said Nguyen Duc Thinh, father of Nguyen Phat Tan who was a member of Tan Lap II Primary School’s chess club.
 
Finally, the organization board gave eight medal sets to excellent collectives and individuals competing chess. In the event of Chinese chess, Tan Lap Ward’s team won first prize in the group category; the highest prize of the individual category came to Huynh Van Teo (Tan Lap Ward).
