At the 2015 IPC Powerlifting Asian Open Championships (Kazakhstan), Van Cong broke an Asian record and world record in the men’s up to 49kg with a 182kg lift. Another Vietnamese weightlifter, Nguyen Binh An, also awarded Asian world record thanks to his successful 183kg lift.
Reportedly, Van Cong and Binh An are expected to be the two key athletes of Vietnam’s weightlifting team at Rio 2016 Paralympics in Brazil.
