In the section of female beach volleyball, Hai Phong used to be considered as the lead of beach volleyball in Vietnam. Some athletes of Hai Phong’s beach volleyball team like Truong Thi Yen and Nguyen Thi Mai had always been highly evaluated by the professionals. They were also ones of the most excellent athletes of the national beach volleyball team. However, since 2013 when Truong Thi Yen had to retire because of illness, the beach volleyball movement and achievements of Hai Phong has declined. Therefore, the aim of the beach volleyball open tournament is to promote Hai Phong’s beach volleyball.
Although it was just a movement tournament, Hai Phong Female Beach Volleyball Open Tournament attracted many teams form the localities which have had strong beach volleyball movement across the country, including Sanna Khanh Hoa, Hai phong 1, Hai Duong, Hai Phong 2, Da Nang, and Thai Binh. Among 20 participating athletes, the most outstanding ones were Ngo Vo Thanh Loan, Tran Thi Trong (Sanna Khanh Hoa), Truong Thi Hau, Hoang Thi Huyen (Hai Phong 1). These athletes had been the familiar ones at the national volleyball tournaments.
At the end of the tournament, the pair Ngo Vo Thanh Loan and Tran Thi Trong of Sanna Khanh Hoa beat Truong Thi Hau and Hoang Thi Huyen of Hai Phong 2-0 to scoop the championship.
Reportedly, according to the professionals, Ngo Vo Thanh Loan and Tran Thi Trong are now in the top three strongest pairs of Vietnam beach volleyball. The typical achievements of the pair include championship title in 2013, runner-up title in 2014, and gold medal at National Sports Festivals 2014.
“Despite the fact that this tournament is just a movement one, the victory of Khanh Hoa’s athletes over other high quality athletes is an encouraging achievement. This asserts again the strong development of Khanh Hoa’s beach volleyball in general and Sanna Khanh Hoa female team in particular,” said Nguyen Cao Dong, coach of Sanna Khanh Hoa female beach volleyball team.
