The Nha Trang City taekwondo tournament for age groups 2016 took place in April 29-30 with the participation of nearly 100 athletes of eight units and clubs in the city. The athletes competed in age groups and weight classes in two events: demonstration and combat. This year’s tournament was joined by many strong taekwondo clubs and dojos in the city, such as Culture - Labor House, Nha Trang University’s Club, and Hoang Van Thu Club. The 2016 tournament saw the participation of Van Thanh Danh, Nha Trang Taekwondo Section executive member, head coach of Khanh Hoa Provincial taekwondo team, as a member or the tournament’s executive board. After two days of competition, the organization board gave 24 medal sets to excellent athletes.
In recent years, taekwondo has significantly contributed to the achievements of the province in the field of sports. Specifically, in the section of movement sports, the number of taekwondo clubs, dojos has been maintained; there have been more and more people learning taekwondo; taekwondo movement has spread over the city. In the high achievement section, the provincial taekwondo team has recently gained some quite good results. For example, at the tournament for young players of central region held in Lam Dong Province in last March, Khanh Hoa Provincial taekwondo team won whole-group first place; got eight golds, six silvers and five bronzes. Additionally, two taekwondo athletes of Khanh Hoa, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and Huynh Le Bao Tran, are now the members of the national team and used to win gold medal at the international taekwondo tournaments for young athletes.
These achievements have been partly thanks to the activities of the taekwondo clubs, dojos, local branches as well as the regularly-held tournaments like the city tournament for age groups.
