The National Aerobic Championship for Young Players 2016, which was first held in Nha Trang City, saw the efforts of Khanh Hoa’s aerobic players.

The championship was jointly organized by the General Department of Gymnastics and Sports – Vietnam Gymnastics Federation and Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. There were more than 100 male and female athletes of eight provinces and cities over the country taking part in the championship, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Tra Vinh, Phu Yen and the host Khanh Hoa. The players, divided into age groups (9-12, 12-14, 15-17), competed in five events: men’s single, women’s single, group of two, group of three and group of five players.

As reported by Bui Trung Thien, Head of the sports section - General Department of Gymnastics and Sports, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi were the strongest units. They have gained high achievements at the previous aerobic championships for young athlees. Besides, they have had quality players who have been trained by the foreign coaches. This year’s tournaments also acknowledged the efforts of the players from Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Thanh Hoa.

According to Thien, the aerobics movement has developed quite strongly in Vietnam, which has been shown most clearly in the national team. Vietnam’s aerobics has got many good results at the international tournaments. Specifically, the Vietnamese athletes won one gold medal, one silver and three bronzes at the world championships held in Japan in last April; four golds at the world tournament held recently. However, in some localities like Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen, the aerobics movement has not developed well because of the lack of facilities and funds, etc. Therefore, the National Aerobic championship for Young Players 2016 was held in Khanh Hoa for the first time in order to promote the development of the aerobic movement in the locality.

Reportedly, although participating in the domestic tournaments with the amateur players, Khanh Hoa’s aerobic team have exerted themselves and got some encouraging achievements, such as gold medals and silver medals at the national tournaments for young athletes, national and provincial Phu Dong Sports Festivals.

At this year’s national championship, the host team had 22 players who were the amateur ones practicing at the provincial Aerobic Club. With the efforts, Khanh Hoa’ athletes got one gold medal and two silver medals in the events of men’s single, mixed doubles, and group of five players.

At the end of the championship, Ho Chi Minh City won 11 golds, three silvers and one bronze, finishing at the first place. Hanoi ranked second with three golds and four silvers; Hai Phong placed third with two golds, three silvers and five bronzes.
