Nha Trang City cross-country tournament for teenagers and children: Sparking summer sports activities

As usual, in June, Nha Trang City Steering Committee for Summer Activities in association with other organizations holds many cultural and sports activities for the teenagers and children in the City, including the cross-country tournament. The cross-country tournament 2016 (Vikoda Cup) took place at Yen Phi Park on June 19 with the participation of more than 200 players of 23 communes, wards, and SOS Children’s Village.
 
The tournament included the events: female children’s running (1-km distance), male children’s running and female teenagers’ running (2-km distance), male teenagers’ running (4-km distance).
 
According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports, the cross-country tournament for the teenagers and children is an important activity among the summer sports activities in the city. The tournament has offered the players not only useful playground but also the opportunity to get acquaintance with the pressure during competitions in case they want to become athletes.
 
Reportedly, the tournament saw a quite strong competition of the players, especially the children players of Phuoc Dong, SOS Children’s Village and Van Thang Ward. These three teams had got high achievements at the previous tournaments. At this year’s tournament, Phuoc Dong team also showed their superiority with the first place for whole group. SOS Children’s Village and Van Thang Ward ranked second and third, respectively. In the teenagers’ event, Phuoc Long Ward won whole-group first place; SOS Children’s Village finished second and Phuoc Dong Commune placed third.
 
As reported by Nguyen Sy Khanh, Deputy Chairman of Nha Trang City People’s Committee, Head of the city Steering Committee for Summer Activities, the cross-country tournament is a practical activity which needs to be maintained, expanded and improved. The tournament has helped to promote the sports movement and spark the sports atmosphere in the city.
