Taking place at Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Competition House from August 6 to 9, the national badminton and table-tennis tournament for families was evaluated to be an attracting playground, drawing many sports teams from localities and industries in the country.

The tournament was joined by 450 players of 33 sports teams from cities, provinces and industries across the country. The players were divided into four age groups and competed in five events: couple, mother and son, mother and daughter, father and son, father and daughter.

According to Le Thanh Sang, Vice-chairman and Secretary-General of Vietnam Badminton Federation, member of tournament’s organization board, this year’s tournament was quite highly evaluated, partly thanks to the preparation of the host Khanh Hoa.
Two-thirds of participants were badminton players. Beside the strong teams like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Lam Dong, there were ones from the provinces in the North West region, such as Yen Bai, Lang Son, and Lao Cai.

Khanh Hoa’s teams had 17 table-tennis players and 41 badminton ones joining the 2016 tournament. With quite well preparation, after four days of competition, the athletes of Khanh Hoa gained three golds, four silvers and six bronzes, resulting in the second place out of thirty-three teams. Quang Ninh ranked first with four golds and one silver; Hanoi finished third with three golds, one silver and three bronzes.

As reported by Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the result of Khanh Hoa’s players at this tournament was very encouraging.  In the future, the province will promote the development of sports movement in the communities and schools; focus on investing in main sports like volleyball (beach, indoor), athletics, martial arts, and so on.
