Nha Trang City basketball tournament has been not only a useful playground for children and teenagers in the summer but also helped to promote the basketball movement in Nha Trang City in particular and Khanh Hoa Province in general.

The tournament 2016 took place at Nha Trang City Sports Training and Competing Center from August 3 to 9. This year’s tournament saw the largest number of teams compared to the previous years. The competition of 400 players from 37 teams of 16 wards, communes and schools in the city and two teams from Ninh Hoa and Cam Ranh were cheered by hundreds of audience.

Although this was just a movement tournament, the participating teams showed a high determination and strong competition, especially in the finals. Finally, Vinh Hiep team won first prize in children’s event; Phuoc Tien got highest prize in teenager’s event. In the champion event, Phuong Sai female team and Phuong Son male team achieved first prize.

“This is my first medal during my summer activities at the city Sports Training and Competing Center. I hope to have opportunity to join the 2017 tournament,” said Nguyen Minh Tri, fifth grade pupil in Phuoc Hai 1 Primary School.

According to Tran Tung Han, Head of organization board, through eight times of organization, basketball has asserted its position among the summer sports activities for pupils. Some years ago, the participating teams took part in the tournament spontaneously. However, in this year’s tournament, most of the teams had been trained quite well by the coaches; the recruitment of players had also been carried out more carefully.

Also reported by Han, the basketball movement in Khanh Hoa Province has not strongly developed partly because of the lack of provincial level tournaments as well as necessary facilities.
