In this tournament, Maseco Ho Chi Minh City and Sanest Khanh Hoa were said to be the two bright candidates for the championship. These teams have had the attacking lines which have been considered as the strongest ones in Vietnam. Additionally, both teams have been the champions in other tournaments. Maseco Ho Chi Minh City is the present champion of the 2015 national volleyball tournament while Sanest Khanh Hoa won the championship title in the 2016 Hung Vuong Cup. Therefore, the competitions of these two teams promised to be very attractive ones
The performances of Sanest Khanh Hoa in this year’s tournament showed their cohesion and high determination. The team lost to Maseco Ho Chi Minh City in the first game of the preliminary round although they played with their strongest formation. In the second and third games, Sanest Khanh Hoa made changes which then proved to be appropriate, helping them to scoop two consecutive wins against Xo so Kien thiet Vinh Long and the 4th Corps Becamex to enter the final.
Previously, Sanest Khanh Hoa had been defeated two times by Maseco Ho Chi Minh City (the final of 2015 national tournament, preliminary round of 2016 PV Dam Cam Mau Cup). Therefore, it could not predict the result of the final competition between these two teams. Finally, after three tense sets, Sanest Khanh Hoa won 3-1 over Maseco Ho Chi Minh City to become the new champion of the tournament.
With this cup, Sanest Khanh Hoa not only asserted their position in the list of Vietnam’s strongest volleyball teams but also became the team achieving all championship titles of the main volleyball tournaments in Vietnam.
