The second tour, organized in Da Nang from September 8 to 11, was considered as a preparation for the upcoming Asian Beach Games. Taking part in the tournament were 14 female and 12 male teams from eight units, provinces and cities throughout the country which were Sanna Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Vung Tau, 4th Corps, and the host Da Nang.
According to Nguyen Cao Dong, Head Coach of Sanna Khanh Hoa beach volleyball team, the 2016 second tour saw the attendance of two novices, Soc Trang and Kien Giang. Although the number of participants of the 2016 second tour increased compared to last year, the candidates for the championship titles were still the tournament’s seniors, such as Trong Quoc – Thanh Vinh, Loan - Trong (Sanna Khanh Hoa), Son – Quoc, Khoi – Quy, Hoa – Thi (Ho Chi Minh City), and Hau – Huyen (Hai Phong).
In the men’s event, Trong Quoc and Thanh Vinh of Sanna Khanh Hoa were evaluated as the most outstanding candidates for the championship. The pair has asserted their strength with more than ten championships gained in recent five years. The latest failure of Quoc – Vinh was in the final tour of the 2015 tournament where they were eliminated in the group stage. After that, they proved themselves with the excellent performances in the first tour of the National Beach Volleyball Championship 2016 and finally scooped the highest title. In the second tour, Quoc and Vinh kept showing their stable form with the 2-1 victory over the pair of Ho Chi Minh City Khoi – Quy in the final match to claim the highest title.
Meanwhile, the female pair of Sanna Khanh Hoa, Loan – Trong, has progressed year on year, remaining on the top three of female athletes in the national tournaments. Specifically, the pair won champions in the 2014 National Sports Festival, 2016 Hai Phong Female Beach Volleyball Open Tournament and in the first tour of national tournament in Quang Nam. In the second tour, Loan and Trong finished second after failing to overcome the opponents of Hai Phong in the final match.
At the end of the second tour, the most excellent athletes were selected for the national beach volleyball team, among them were three players of Sanna Khanh Hoa, namely Thanh Vinh, Vinh Phuc and Thanh Tram. Reportedly, since 2009, the athletes of Sanna Khanh Hoa beach volleyball team have often been called for the national team and got some good achievements. For example, Quoc - Vinh pair placed ninth out of 43 teams and fifth out of 42 teams in the 2010 and 2014 Asian Beach Games respectively.
