Me Trang Cup is an annual socialized sports activity of Me Trang Coffee Joint Stock Company. Reportedly, there were from 70 to 130 participants joining the tournaments held from 2013 to 2015. However, the number of participants in the 2016 one increased up to 160 players who were from 29 units in and outside the province. Apart from the regulars like Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan, this year’s tournament saw the first attendance of the clubs from Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Can Tho, etc. The players competed in the categories of movement and free event.
As stated by Nguyen Canh Than, member of Vietnam Tennis Federation, Head of the coach board, beside the familiar mode of competition in which the players and teams are divided into groups, compete in knockout round or round robin format; the winners are decided basing on the number of points, the seventh tournament applied a new method which has often been applied to the professional athletes. Accordingly, all the athletes have equal opportunities to win the cup if they exert themselves and play with the highest determination. Specifically, the winners of matches have an advantage of playing less two or three games than the losers. The athletes are divided into leagues of winners and losers and compete with the players or teams in the same league. In case the player or team in the league of losers perform excellently and win all matches in their league, they will have opportunity to enter the final.
“With the new mode of competition, the movement players have to compete with a professional spirit of competition, which means that they have to consider each match as a final one,” said Than.
At the end of the tournament, the organization board gave six sets of medals to the most excellent individual and teams.
According to Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, over seven years of organization, tennis tournament – Me Trang Cup has asserted its position as a quality movement tournament. This is really an attractive playground for the tennis lovers in and outside Khanh Hoa Province.
