Saigon Beer Cup 2016: a success beyond expectations

The final round of the 2016 National Mini Football Tournament – Saigon Beer Cup came to a close in Nha Trang on October 5. The success of the movement tournament not only came from the attractiveness of the games but also was thanks to the enthusiastic cheer from the spectators.

Saigon Beer Cup 2016 may change the outlook of people on the mini football movement. “In recent years, the mini football movement in Vietnam has had a strong development which has been highly evaluated by the Asian Football Confederation. The movement has also been considered as the foundation to encourage people to improve the physical health through playing sports,” said Tran Quoc Tuan, Standing Vice-Chairman of Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
 
According to Le Nguyen Hong, an official of VFF, nowadays, the professional quality of mini football tournaments has been not inferior to the professional ones. The large-scale and high quality tournaments are the prerequisites for the development of mini football movement. At present, Saigon Beer Cup is the playground which has had the highest quality as well as attracted the largest number of teams among other mini football tournaments. 
 
The fascination and attractiveness of 2016 Saigon Beer Cup were showed through each match of the final round held at 2-4 Square, Nha Trang. All the participating teams seemed to have similarity in the term of quality and style of competition. The final round was played as a single-elimination tournament; therefore, all participants devoted all their strength in each match. Most of the match ended with no big score difference while many matches were decided by penalty shoot-out.
 
The final round took place in four days with more than 100 goals scored. Tons of spectators came to watch and cheer the teams. Especially, more than 2,000 spectators covered the stands in the opening and final match. Besides, the final was commentated by Quang Huy, famous commentator from Vietnam Television Corporation (VTC). All these things partly created lively and cheerful atmosphere for the tournament.
 
Referring to the success of the final round of Saigon Beer Cup 2016, Nguyen Van Thinh, Director of Saigon Alcohol Beer and Beverages Corporation (Sabeco) – Southern Central Region, the sole sponsor of the tournament, said “We are very surprised by the festive atmosphere throughout the tournament. We would like to express our thanks to the football fans, the leaders of Khanh Hoa Province, Nha Trang City and provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for giving favorable conditions to the tournament.”
 

Finally, FC 868 (Ca Mau) claimed championship and was awarded VND150 million; Phan Lam Gia Cat Nguyen Club (Long An) got second prize worth VND70 million; Yen Do Gia Lai  Club (Gia Lai) and QQ Club-house Club (Binh Duong) finished third and fourth, receiving VND40 million and VND20 million, respectively.
