At the 2016 tournament, taking place at Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Competition House in October 28-30, 26 units with more than 250 players from 13 badminton clubs in Khanh Hoa and 13 clubs from other provinces competed in 17 events. The players were divided into age groups ranging from 16 to above 50.
According to Mai Duc Chinh, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Badminton Federation, the stable number of participants of the tournament proves partly the attractiveness of this open movement. The annual tournament of Khanh Hoa often sees the active attendance of the units like Lam Dong, Binh Thanh Club (Ho Chi Minh City), and Paramount as well as strong competitions among the strong teams of Khanh Hoa such as Team Brother, Hanh Tinh Xanh (Green Planet). Nghe Nhan (Artisan), and Hoang Hoa Tham.
Through this year’s tournament, the players of Khanh Hoa showed progress and shortened the quality gap with the players of other provinces. The host athletes reached the finals of 10 out of 17 events and got high achievements.
Finally, Hoa Hoa Tham Club won whole-group first prize with two gold medals, four silver ones and two bronze ones; Team Brother placed second while Cam Ranh made third place for the first time ever.
As reported by Pham Duy Hung, head of Hoang Hoa Tham Club, the victory at the 2016 tournament has been the first one in 14 years joining the tournament of the club. This is a remarkable result of Hoang Hoa Tham Club at a tournament where Khanh Hoa’s clubs have often been assessed to be not competitive with the ones of other localities.
Although this is just a provincial level movement tournament, the scale expansion of the tournament has partly helped to promote the development of badminton movement in Khanh Hoa Province. According to Chinh, the tournament is necessary for the maintaining of badminton movement in the province as well as assessing player’s quality and helping athletes to learn and exchange experience. The tournament has also created opportunity to connect badminton movement among the localities over the country.
