After the first organization in 2015, Khanh Hoa’s second football tournament for people above 40 – Lotte Mart Nha Trang Cup continued receiving active supports from many teams. The tournament took place at 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium from December 25, 2016 to January 5, 2017, joined by six clubs: Hoang Sa-Truong Sa, Vuot len chinh minh, Khanh Minh, CCK, Old Lion and the reigning champion Hoang Gia.
Beside aiming to create a close connection among the amateur football clubs and an annual playground for the football lovers above 40 in the province, through the tournament, the participants wanted to provide help to needy people. This made the tournament special compared to other amateur ones. For example, the teams eliminated in the group stage had to pay a participation fee of VND3 million while the team qualified for the semi-final paid nearly VND5 million which was even higher than the prize for the champion (VND3 million). The runner-up was given VND2 million; third-placed team and fair-play team received VND1 million each.
“The players considered the tournament as a useful playground to express the love for football and an opportunity to offer assistance to the disadvantaged people. Therefore, all participants took part in the tournament with enthusiasm. Hopefully, the tournament will keep developing and attract more teams,” said a player of Hoang Gia team.
Thanks to the tournament’s good purpose, a part from the active response of six participating teams, Khanh Hoa’s second football tournament for people above 40 years old received financial supports from Anh Duong Vietnam Company (VND20 million) and Lotte Mart Nha Trang (VND30 million). According to the representatives of the sponsors, 50 percent of the moneys are used to organize the tournament; the remaining 50 percent are used to raise funds for the charity kitchen of Khanh Hoa General Hospital and the orphanage of Loc Tho Pagoda, Nha Trang City.
