Khanh Hoa’s sports, especially the ones which have been considered as the strength of Khanh Hoa’s sports, gained many impressive achievements in 2016. However, there have still been many remaining difficulties which Khanh Hoa needs to cope with in order to boost sports.

Hallmarks of football and volleyball

In some recent years, while many football training centers across Vietnam have not made noticeable progress, Khanh Hoa’s sports has still developed strongly. In 2016, all four young football teams of Khanh Hoa gained ticket to enter the final round of the tournament they took part in. Khanh Hoa U15 qualified for semi-final and was in top four strongest teams of the National U15 Tournament held in An Giang Province. Khanh Hoa U19 Sannatech got bronze medal at the National U19 Tournament. In the Thanh Nien Newspaper National U21 Championship – Clear Men Cup, Sanna Khanh Hoa U21 placed second and was also given fair-play award. In case of Sanna Khanh Hoa-Bien Vietnam (Sanna KH-BVN), finishing eighth out of 14 teams can be considered a success of the team from the coastal province in a rigorous tournament like V-League, especially when they joined the tournament with many home-grown young players and financial difficulty.

Last year, Khanh Hoa’s beach football and futsal also successfully asserted their position in the domestic playgrounds. The beach football team of Khanh Hoa, Sanest Tourist Khanh Hoa, scooped silver medal at the 2016 National Beach Football Championship. Six athletes of Sanest Tourist Khanh Hoa were also selected to play for the national beach football team at the Fifth Asian Beach Games. The two representatives of Khanh Hoa’s futsal, Sanna Khanh Hoa and Sanatech Khanh Hoa, proved that they were still the formidable opponents of any strong team at the domestic tournaments.

The year of 2016 also saw many outstanding results of Khanh Hoa’s volleyball, including the two championships at Hung Vuong Cup and Dam Ca Mau Cup, and silver medal at the National Volleyball Championship. Meanwhile, the young athletes of Sanna Khanh Hoa claimed the third consecutive championship at the National Junior Volleyball Championship and after that claimed the champion title at the National Junior Volleyball Club Tournament 2016. Additionally, the male beach volleyball team of Sanna Khanh Hoa won highest prize at the National Beach Volleyball Championship.

As reported by Tran Quang Thuong, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial for Sports Technique Training Center, in 2016, there were 27 coaches and athletes of Khanh Hoa being called for the national sports teams. Khanh Hoa’s sports teams participated in 66 tournaments, both international and domestic ones, brought home 218 sets of medals (56 golds, 76 silvers, 86 bronzes).

Hoping for favorable conditions for development

Last year, Khanh Hoa Province offered a higher allowance to the sports coaches and athletes compared to the previous years, especially after the Resolution No. 04/2016 of the provincial People’s Council was promulgated in August. This helped to encourage the spirit of competition of both coaches and athletes a lot.

Reportedly, the 2016 budget for Khanh Hoa Provincial for Sports Technique Training Center was VND35.525 billion, which was up to VND45 billion plus the amount from sports socialization. In deed, this total budget of Khanh Hoa was quite high compared to other sports centers in the country. However, most of the sponsored sports activities in Khanh Hoa have come only from Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company. The almost complete dependence on one business is considered not good for the stable development of sports. Therefore, it requires the appropriate policies and directions from the province’s leaders in order to boost the provincial sports industry more efficiently.
