Nha Trang City often holds human chess competition within the series of cultural, sports activities and folk games in Lunar New Year in order to promote the unique traditional cultural values and create a lively atmosphere for the locals and tourists on Tet days.

This year’s human chess competition took place on January 30-31 (3rd and 4th of lunar January) at 2-4 Square, Nha Trang City. The competition was joined by 40 Chinese chess players from the localities in Khanh Hoa Province. The most outstanding players winning the preliminary round and entering the final round included Luu Minh Hiep, Do Ngoc Thanh, Tran Thai Son and Le Thanh Cong.

Luu Minh Hiep and Le Thanh Cong were the two familiar faces in the human chess competitions held in Nha Trang on the occasion of Lunar New Year. In recent competitions, these two players showed their good skills in Chinese chess, qualified for the final round and gained high achievements. However, in the 2017 competition, although still performing well, they could not overcome young talent Tran Thai Son who finally scooped the championship.

Watching human chess competitions, the chess players can discuss about the moves or learn the skills and move from the good chess players. In the meantime, the spectators also have intriguing and enjoyable experiences when watching chessmen, who are martial arts practitioners, dressing costumes representing the chess pieces and performing martial arts techniques.

Nguyen Thi My Hanh, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said “The atmosphere of Lunar New Year in Nha Trang is quite interesting. Apart from enjoying sightseeing, I also attend many cultural and sports activities, for example human chess competition.”

In over ten years of organizing, the human chess competition proved its own attraction to the locals and tourists. Therefore, this competition has often been selected to be one of the mains activities to serve people on Tet occasion.
