Enhancing quality of movement sports to improve sports socialization

The not-good-enough quality of the movement sports activities in Khanh Hoa Province has caused the lack of investment from the sponsors as well as the inefficiency in sports socialization.

The not-good-enough quality of the movement sports activities in Khanh Hoa Province has caused the lack of investment from the sponsors as well as the inefficiency in sports socialization.

Last year, Khanh Hoa’s sports department saw a quite strong development of movement sports and high-achievement sports. As reported by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there are now more than 395,000 people who often do physical exercise or play sports (accounting for 32.77% of total population); over 83,500 households (30.67% of the total households) were recognized as sports families. In 2016, Khanh Hoa’s sports athletes took part in 15 national level tournaments; about 22 provincial level sports tournament were organized. The whole province now has four sports federations and twelve sports clubs or organizations with the number of members up to tens of thousands of people. These sports organizations have partly contributed to promote the public sports movement in the province.

In high-achievement sports, Khanh Hoa has kept investing in some sports which have been the strengths of Khanh Hoa’s sports, such as volleyball (indoor, beach), football, futsal, table-tennis, athletics, sports dance, bodybuilding and martial arts. The athletes of these sports last year brought Khanh Hoa 216 medals, exceeding the target of 13.6%. 29 athletes and coaches of Khanh Hoa were selected for the national sports teams.

The results of Khanh Hoa’s sports have been partly thanks to the contributions from sports socializing activities. In 2016, around VND2.4 billion was mobilized from socializing activities. Some sports teams of province like volleyball and football teams have received significant support from Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company and Sanna Beverage Factory - Vietnam Ocean JSC.

However, in recent years, the sports socialization in Khanh Hoa has not been carried out as efficiently as expected. About four or five years ago, the province collected more than VND3 billion per year from the sports socializing activities, which helped to hold many large-scale sports tournaments, such as the Vietnam-Japan athletics tournament, international baseball tournament, Khanh Hoa athletics open tournament, Khanh Hoa bike race open tournament, and the international women’s beach volleyball championship. Recently, these tournaments have been rarely organized or are no longer held.

According to the leaders of provincial sports department, the reasons for the inefficiency in the sports socialization include both objective and subjective causes. Specifically, some sponsors could not afford to keep supporting the sports activities. Meanwhile, the province’s sports activities have not proved high quality and therefore have been unattractive to the businesses. Nowadays, Khanh Hoa only holds 15 to 20 province-level sports tournaments and hosts 8 to 10 nation-level ones per year in order to maintain the operation of the provincial sports department.

Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dac Tai in recent meetings with leaders of provincial sports department always gives directions to the sports department to take initiative in building the plans and promoting the development of the sports activities as well as attracting investment from the businesses.
