The 2017 cross-country run for teenagers and children – Vikoda Cup was organized by Nha Trang City Summer Steering Committee and the city Center of Culture and Sports at Yen Phi Park (Nha Trang) on July 16.
This was the 16th time the tournament has been organized and the number of participants has increased year by year. For example, this year’s tournament draw the attendance of 26 units from the communes, wards and SOS Children’s Village with more than 200 competitors, two units more compared to the 2016 tournament. This partly reflected that the cross-country movement in Nha Trang City has been maintained and grown stronger throughout the years.
The 2017 tournament also included same events like the previous years, which were children (1km), female teenagers (2km), and male teenagers (4km). Reportedly, the children of Nha Trang SOS Children’s Village took part in all 16 tournaments. The children at the village have not had many opportunities to take part in sport activities; therefore, they have always wanted to join the cross-country run in order to have fun and exchange with other children, according to Tran Ngoc Hung Cuong, Head of SOS Children’s Village team at the tournament. The villages’ children had spent one month practicing for the tournament.

Thanks to the good preparation, the SOS Children’s Village team won first prize in both children’s event and teenagers’ event. Phuoc Dong Commune and Phuong Son Ward came second and third in children’s event respectively. In teenagers’ event, Phuoc Long Ward took second place while Vinh Truong Ward finished third.
Vice Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports highly appreciated the cross-country competition for teenagers and children. The tournament, beside other activities, has provided a useful playground for children in the city in summer.
