Most of the teams taking part in vovinam tournament within the framework of Nha Trang Eighth Physical Exercise and Sports Festival won medals, showing a strong competition among participants.
At the previous physical exercise and sports festivals, most teams had representatives competing in vovinam tournament. Nevertheless, the medals were always won by the strong teams with good sports movement. However, the eighth festival, being held in July 1-2, saw many competitive competitions among participants, especially in combat event.
As said by Tran Tung Han, Deputy Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports, this vovinam tournament aimed to select the member for the provincial vovinam team to prepare for Khanh Hoa Provincial Physical Exercise and Sports Festival which is slated to take place in late July. Therefore, the organization committee paid a special attention to the quality of the athletes, especially the young ones.
At the 2017 vovinam tournament, the participants were mainly the students at the primary schools and junior high schools. Last tournament was joined by more than 150 players of 14 teams. This year’s tournament saw an increase in number of teams (16) but a decrease in number of players (110), who were mainly aged from 11 to 15. The fact that 15 out of 16 teams got medals showed the high determination of the teams in achieving medals.
Dang Ngoc Hoa, Head of Nha Trang City Vovinam Branch, assessed that the 2017 vovinam tournament had a high professional quality and that there was not much difference in the level of expertise among the competitors.
The movement of vovinam in Nha Trang has been developing quite well with more than 500 regular practitioners practicing at 20 clubs and dojos in the city. Since 2010, the vovinam team of Nha Trang has always ranked among top positions at the provincial tournaments.
