Khanh Hoa’s dancesports, both movement and high-achievement dancesport, has gradually flourished with some good results at the national competitions.
Couple Minh Duc- Hoang Quyen, dancesport coaches at Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Technique Training Center, can be said to be the ones who laid the groundwork for the development of dancesport in Khanh Hoa. Their passion and devotion to dancesport have significantly helped this sport to develop in the coastal province.
Dancesport was introduced into Vietnam in the 2000s. At that time, Minh Duc, started to practice dancesport and felt very passionate about it. Hoang Uyen was a student in Minh Duc’s dancing class at that time, who later quit her job in a bank to pursue dancesport. The two have worked in harmony with each other at the dancesport competitions and gained remarkable achievements. Since then, the dancesport movement was formed and has gradually developed in Khanh Hoa.
Dancesport is a partnered activity with a male and female counterpart. According to Minh Duc, dancesport requires musical sensibilities and the harmony between the two dancers which, apart from gift, is only achieved through hard practice and endless learning. Besides, in order to take part in large-scale competitions, the dancesport dancers need to invest in dancewear and shoes which are quite expensive.
In 2012, dancesport became a high achievement sport of Khanh Hoa Province, resulting in the formation of the provincial dancesport team, instructed by coaches Minh Duc and Hoang Quyen. Until now, Khanh Hoa’s dancesport team has four professional pairs and three amateur pairs. The team has been among few sports teams of Khanh Hoa which met the targets at the large-scale competitions.
Minh Duc and Hoang Quyen as the representative athletes of Khanh Hoa won a medal at the National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival 2014. Most recently, at the national junior dancesport championship and dancesport open tournament 2017, held in Hanoi in June, the dancers of Khanh Hoa performed superbly and won eight gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze ones.
Apart from the professional athletes, the coaching board of Khanh Hoa provincial dancesport team is having high expectations of the gifted athletes, Tran Quoc kien, Huynh Thi Mong Tram, Bui Quang Nam, Nguyen Thi Hong Anh. These athletes are expected to won medals for Khanh Hoa’s dancesport team at the 2018 National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival.
Dancesport includes two categories: Ballroom (also called Standard) and Latin. Each category contains five international style dances: Cha-cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive (Latin); Tango, Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz (Ballroom).
