The swimming classes at Yet Kieu Swimming Pool (No.10 Yersin, Nha Trang) are joined by a lot of children, mostly aged from 9 to 14. Being aware of the importance of swimming, many parents have arranged their time to take their children to the swimming classes. “My child, third grade student, used to fear to enter the water. After one month taking the class, my child has felt more at ease.” said Nguyen Thi Cam Van (Vinh Phuoc Ward), parent of a swimming learner.
Each swimming course includes four classes which taught by two or three instructors each. Depending on the level of the learners, the instructors will provide appropriate lessons. The learners are also instructed to tackle swimming accidents and save drowning swimmers. Many learners shared that they have overcome the fear of water and have been interested in learning swimming.

The Youth Union branches and children’s houses in other localities over Khanh Hoa have also actively carried out the programs to teach children swimming. The swimming classes of Cam Ranh City Children’s House have attracted nearly 150 children. These classes have been organized for many years. Each swimming course lasts two month and costs VND700 thousand per child. The children of poor, nearly-poor households and policy beneficiaries are exempt from tuition fee or offered discounted tuition; therefore, there have been many children taking part the classes.
Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union mobilized funding from the businesses to hold swimming classes for children at the mobile swimming pools in Van Ninh District. “In the upcoming time, we will promote the activities to equip children with swimming skills. In the localities where there are no swimming pools, the mobile swimming pools are really helpful,” said Truong Tan Hung, Deputy Secretary of provincial Youth Union.
The cooperation between the Youth Union branches and children’s houses in organizing swimming classes for children has not only equipped children with necessary swimming skills to prevent drowning but also helped to promote their health and physical development as well as created a useful playground for them in summer.
