The regular summer swimming courses and swimming competitions for teenagers and children in Nha Trang have created positive social impacts and draw the attention of many parents and sponsors in the city. These courses and competitions have also helped the swimming movement in Nha Trang City developed strongly.
According to Tran Tung Han, Deputy Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture and Sports, since 2013, the city planed and opened many summer swimming classes for teenagers and children citywide. Over five years, around 2,000 pupils in the city have been equipped basic swimming skills.
After each summer swimming course, a swimming competition is held in order to evaluate the teaching quality and swimming skills of the pupils as well as create useful playground for the teenagers and children to exchange and improve their swimming skills. These competitions have always received positive responses from the pupils and their parents. The number of participants and events of the competition is always higher than the previous year. For example, the 2017 competition has 140 players competing for 36 medal sets, up 40 players and eight medal sets compared to last year.

This year, the organization board incorporated three events into the tournament besides two traditional ones (breaststroke, front crawl), which were backstroke, butterfly, 4x50m relay, making the tournament more competitive and exciting. Kim Anh, mother of two competitors of Yet Kieu Club, said, “This is a useful and practical playground for the teenagers and children. My children had just swum in the sea; therefore, their skills and stamina are now not as good as other competitors’. Next year, I will register my children for summer swimming classes.”
The support of the sponsors has also helped the swimming movement in Nha Trang to develop strongly. Reportedly, the summer swimming competition for teenagers and children of the city has always been supported by the sponsors. Especially, the pool rental fee of the 2015 and 2016 competition was financed entirely by the management unit of Yet Kieu Swimming Pool. “The active support of the sponsors has been the driving force for us to keep organizing this swimming competition,” Tran Tung Han said.
