After a seven-year hiatus, Khanh Hoa Provincial Badminton Federation lately organized a junior badminton tournament for the province’s players as an effort to build up the badminton movement in Khanh Hoa.
Khanh Hoa has had a quite strong badminton movement. As reported by the provincial Badminton Federation, the province now has 35 badminton clubs and about 800 to 1,000 regular practitioners. Besides, the number of badminton tournaments at all levels in Khanh Hoa has always been more than other movement sports. However, because badminton has just been a movement sport in Khanh Hoa, the province’s badminton clubs and players could improve skills just by practicing by themselves or taking part in tournaments. That is also the reason why Khanh Hoa’s badminton has not developed stronger, and most of Khanh Hoa badminton athletes have been the middle-aged ones.
Aiming to promote the badminton movement and create a young generation of players, the Badminton Federation of Khanh Hoa organized the 2017 junior tournament. The tournament took place in September 2-3 with the participation of around 50 players from seven localities and clubs in and outside Khanh Hoa. The participants were spilt into four age groups from under 11 to 18 years old, and competed in men’s singles and women’s singles.

According to Khanh Hoa Provincial Badminton Federation, the tournament had quite good quality and a high level of competitiveness thanks to the participant of quality players in and outside the province, especially Lam Dong Province.
Reportedly, the junior badminton tournament of Khanh Hoa was interrupted since 2010 due to lack of athletes. In recent five years, some young badminton players of Khanh Hoa have performed quite well at the regional and national tournaments. However, at present, Khanh Hoa is facing a shortage of junior badminton athletes. Therefore, Khanh Hoa Badminton Federation made efforts to look for participants and successfully organized the 2017 tournament after seven years of hiatus. Through the tournament, the organization committee also selected some outstanding players who will be offered appropriate training programs.
