The 2018 national volleyball championship will decrease to two rounds (first round and final ranking round) instead of three as before. The change may cause some difficulties to many teams right at the beginning of the tournament which is slated for April.

Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) recently announced the schedule, regulations and participant list of the 2018 national volleyball championship. Accordingly, this year’s championship only contains the first round and the final ranking round. The first round will take place in Hai Duong Province (group A) and in Hanoi (group B) in February 14-24; the final ranking round will be held in Ben Tre Province from December 25 to 28.

After the 2017 season, there were four relegated teams, which were two male teams of Ho Chi Minh City Police and Binh Duong and two female teams of Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Phuc. However, only two teams, men’s Ben Tre and women’s Casuho Hau Giang, were promoted. Therefore, the 2018 national championship will only see the participation of 22 teams instead of 24 teams like last year’s tournament.

The decrease of round is said to probably make the teams to face difficulties if they do not prepare well enough for the tournament right at the first round. At the previous years’ tournaments which had three rounds, some team which did not play well in the first round could strive to improve their results in the second round to qualify for the final and ranking round. With only two rounds at this year’s tournament, the teams must prepare more carefully and have appropriate tactic to avoid being relegated after the first round.

Apart from the above changes, the participating teams at the 2018 championship also have their own changes. For example, many teams like Sanest Khanh Hoa, Trang An Ninh Binh, Long An, Ha Tinh, Lienvietpostbank, and Duc Giang Chemical Hanoi, etc. will have new coaches. The Fourth Corps Becamex will probably dismiss because some key players had transferred to other teams.
