Being first held in 2006, the human chess competition has become an interesting sports event of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa on the occasions of festivals and Lunar New Year.

The human chess competition on 2018 Lunar New Year was jointly organized by Khanh Hoa Provincial Cultural Center and Bich Quang Mon Dojo (Khanh Hoa Provincial Children’s House) on February 18 to 20 (lunar January 3 to 5). Four players were qualified for the semi-finals after the qualification round joined by more than 30 players.

The four semi-finalists have been the familiar players at the chess competitions of Khanh Hoa. Luu Minh Hiep, Dang Tuy, Ly Duc Minh, and Luong Hai Duong often win high achievements at the provincial chess, human chess competitions and even at the national tournaments. These four players have often been the top four players of the Lunar New Year human chess competition. At this year’s competition, Luu Minh Hiep with his excellent moves overcame the three other players to win the championship.

People who know to play chess often come to watch and learn the tragedy and moves from the quality players while other spectators are attracted by the chessmen, who were the martial arts practitioners of Bich Quang Mon Dojo, dressing costumes representing the chess pieces and performing beautiful martial arts moves with weapons.

A local named Vo Huy Phuong said, “I often take my children to watch human chess competition held on Tet days. We like the lively atmosphere of the competitions and the martial arts performances of chessmen. I hope that this human chess competition will continue to be held in order to create a unique and interesting activity for Nha Trang people and tourists on Tet occasion.”
