The judo clubs in Khanh Hoa, although amateur, have being maintained quite well the movement and contributed effectively to the achievements of the province’ martial arts. Khanh Hoa’s judo team is striving to change the color of the medal at the upcoming 8th National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival.

In Khanh Hoa, judo clubs have not had as many activities as other martial arts like karate, taekwondo, traditional martial art, and vovinam. There are now only three judo clubs with nearly 200 practitioners in Khanh Hoa, which are the one of the provincial Ethnic Minority Boarding School, Khanh Hoa Youth Judo Center, and Cam Lam Youth Judo Center.

As said by Nguyen Long Phu, coach at Khanh Hoa Youth Judo Club, it is difficult to promote the development of judo movement in Khanh Hoa. In order for a judo dojo to be established, a training hall, mats and qualified coach recognized by the Vietnam Judo Federation are required. The mats cost from several hundreds million to one billion of Vietnam Dong. Due to the limited funds, most of the judo dojos in Khanh Hoa still cannot meet the standards.

Despite the few number of clubs and practitioners as well as financial difficulties, the judo clubs in Khanh Hoa have had positive contributions to the overall achievement of the province’s sports. Reportedly, Khanh Hoa’s judo in general and Khanh Hoa Youth Judo Center in particular have often organized exchanges with the judo organizations of other countries, for example Korean and Japan. Most recently, in early March this year, the Department of International Cooperation - General Department of Physical Exercise and Sports of Vietnam in association with Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports and Khanh Hoa Youth Judo Center held an exchange between the judo clubs of Khanh Hoa and the Japanese judo delegation.

Since 2009, Khanh Hoa’s judo athletes have always got good results at the national judo tournaments. Khanh Hoa’s athlete Vo Minh Tri used to play for the national judo team of Vietnam at the international judo tournaments in Thailand and Japan, winning four bronze medals. At the 7th National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival 2014, Tri earned Khanh Hoa’s team a bronze medal.

The judo team of Khanh Hoa is actively preparing for the National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival 2018, which is slated to take place in Hanoi in November and December. Khanh Hoa’s provincial judo team includes five athletes who used to perform well at the national tournaments. The team is practicing in order to be able to change the color of the medal at the upcoming national festival.
