As said by Van Thanh Danh, Head Coach of Khanh Hoa Provincial taekwondo team, the 2018 provincial taekwondo tournament for age groups was joined the more teams and players than the previous years’ ones. The quality of the players was also improved; the teams competed with high determination and strong competition. These things showed a positive sign of the taekwondo movement in the localities.
The number of teams at the previous tournaments was about five to seven with 70 to 100 players. At this year’ tournament, this number increased to nine teams with more than 130 players. Nha Trang was still superior in both demonstration and combat events. They finished the tournament with nine gold medals, taking the first position. The 2018 tournament also saw the improvement of Ninh Hoa players. In the combat event, many players of Ninh Hoa performed exceptionally well and even gained more gold medals than the players of Nha Trang. Ninh Hoa team finally placed second behind Nha Trang. The weight classes from 42 to 63 kg saw the gold winners coming from Cam Ranh, Khanh Son, Nha Trang University.

Nguyen Ngoc Hiep, Head Coach of Nha Trang team, said that thanks to the good preparation of the teams, the 2018 tournament had a high quality, and the competition among teams was also strong. This will be a driving force for Nha Trang team to keep practicing hard in order to defend the first position at the future tournaments.
Among the high-achievement sports, taekwondo has always been considered as a strong point of Khanh Hoa’s sports at the national tournaments. Four years ago, taekwondo athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy of Khanh Hoa was an outstanding athlete in the national taekwondo team of Vietnam, gaining quite many good achievements at a Southeast Asian tournament and an international tournament. The provincial taekwondo tournament for age groups has provided a good opportunity for the athletes, especially the young ones, to learn and exchange experience with each other as well as being selected for the provincial team.
