The Amateur Cycling Race of Khanh Hoa Province is organized annually to create a regular playground for the non-professional cyclists; connect the cycling clubs and promote the cycling movement in the province.

This year’s tournament was jointly organized by Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports and the provincial Cycling Association, joined by 70 male and six female riders from 16 cycling clubs in Nha Trang, Cam Lam District, and Cam Ranh City. The riders were divided into age groups and competed in the individual and team events, riding along Tran Phu Street with a race distance from 11km to 22km.

In the two recent years, the Amateur Cycling Race of Khanh Hoa had fewer participants and smaller scale than the ones in the previous years. The 2016 tournament attracted the participation of tens of cycling clubs in Khanh Hoa and other provinces and cities such as Da Nang, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Ha Noi. Reportedly, Khanh Hoa used to have quite many cycling tournaments per year partly thanks to the support of the sponsors. However, nowadays, there is only one amateur tournament due to the lack of funds.

The main purpose of the 2018 Amateur Cycling Race was remaining a regular playground which was expected to connect the cyclists and cycling clubs over the province, according to Vo Lang, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Cycling Association.

Although the participants were not as many as before, the cyclists of the 2018 tournament still showed an enthusiastic competitive spirit. This year’s tournament was the first participation of Nguyen Thi Thu Van, member of Bachuhoo Club. “I have practiced cycling everyday in six recent years. I think that this sport is suitable for all ages. I have been in quite good health thanks to practicing cycling regularly,” said Van.

The cycling movement in Khanh Hoa has developed quite well with the number of cycling clubs increasing from ten in 2014 to twenty in 2018. In Nha Trang, there are now more than 15 cycling clubs of over one hundred of members. Some outstanding cycling clubs among them are Khanh Hoa Cycling Club, Nha Trang Velo, Friendship, and Bachuhoo, etc. Initially, many people started cycling only to improve their health and gradually developed an interest in cycling. In order to enhance the connection among the cycling clubs as well as promote the cycling movement in the province, such tournaments like the provincial amateur cycling race should be organized and maintained.
