The volleyball tournament – PV Dam Ca Mau Cup is the last competition for the top four of men’s and women’s events of the 2017 national volleyball championship before they take part in the national sports festival held in Hanoi between November 26 and December 12. PV Dam Ca Mau Cup 2018 takes place at Dak Nong Province from October 31 to November 4. The men’s event is the competition between Sanest Khanh Hoa (2017 champion), The Cong (2017 runner-up), Trang An Ninh Binh (2017 third placed team), and Long An which replaced dissolved Fourth Corps – Becamex.
Many people were afraid that the tournament would not had high quality as the teams could not send their best lineup to PV Dam Ca Mau Cup 2018 because the national sports festival is growing nearer. On the contrary, the participating teams played with their excellent players, bringing exciting matches to the spectators. Sanest Khanh Hoa met The Cong, their rival at the final of the 2017 national volleyball championship. The Cong has always been highly appreciated for their skills and discipline. They won four editions of the national championship.

The Cong has many quality athletes who have been the members of the national volleyball team, such as Van Phuong, Vu Hoang, and Thai Hung. The Cong also added two players to the lineup before this tournament. Whereas, Sanest Khanh Hoa still plays with their familiar athletes like Trien Chieu, Van Tien, Ngo Van Kieu, Tu Thanh Thuan (national team’s member) and Huynh Trung Truc (national team’s member). Quoc Doan could not play the match because of his injury.
The competitions between Sanest Khanh Hoa and The Cong often take place excitingly and last four to five sets. In the final of the 2016 national volleyball championship, The Cong defeated the host Sanest Khanh Hoa 3-1. The representative of Khanh Hoa gained their revenge when winning 3-2 over The Cong in the 2017 final to claim that year’s title.
At the PV Dam Ca Mau Cup 2018, Sanest Khanh Hoa played an impressive performance as they whipped The Cong 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20). This result even gave a shock to Phung Cong Hung, coach of The Cong and head coach of Vietnam national volleyball team. Sanest Khanh Hoa continued to play well in the second match against Long An; they also won 3-0.
With two consecutive wins, Sanest Khanh Hoa gained a ticket to play the final with Trang An Ninh Binh, which also had two wins over The Cong (3-2) and Long An (3-0).
