The U-13 football contest 2019 of Khanh Hoa taking place recently was an interesting playground, which was expected to nurture young players’ love of football.
126 young players of nine teams from the districts, towns, cities and football center across the province gathered at 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium from July 18 to 23 to take part in the contest. This contest was organized not only to promote the school sports movement, create summer playground for the children but also to help the football teams’ recruiters to select the talents.
Khanh Hoa’s 2019 U-13 football contest was played by seven players per team on the real grass ground of the 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium. This was also a new feature of this year’s contest. In recent years, the amateur football movement has developed strongly in Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa in particular. Many amateur football contests were organized at a nation-level with teams consisting of five players or seven players each. The provincial 2019 U-13 football contest could help to familiarize the players with playing with seven players.

Nha Trang U-13 and Ninh Hoa U-13 were the finalists of Khanh Hoa’s 2019 U-13 football contest. Nha Trang team got the final ticket with ease. Meanwhile, Ninh Hoa team had also played exceptionally well with a high determination before they met Nha Trang in the final. They won 4-2 against Khanh Vinh in the semi-final match on July 22.
In the final, Ninh Hoa kept playing well and surprisingly defeated Nha Trang, which was regarded as the strongest team of the contest. Two teams still tied 0-0 after 2/3 of the regulation time was played. The breakthrough came when Dang The Nghia of Ninh Hoa latched on to the mistake of Nha Trang’s defenders and scored the opener of the match. It was also The Nghia who extended the lead to 2-0 with a penalty shot just some minutes after the first goal. Nha Trang made many efforts in search for goals in the last minutes of the game. They were awarded a penalty which was kicked into the goal by Pham Minh Thanh. However, 2-1 was the result of the final. Ninh Hoa claimed the championship of the provincial 2019 U-23 contest.
Nguyen Co Dien, Head Coach of Ninh Hoa U-13 hoped that not only U-13 but also U-11 contests would continue to be organized and become annual playgrounds for young players in Khanh Hoa.
