The match between the sides took place at Thong Nhat Stadium, home ground of Ho Chi Minh City. The home team had a better organization and more attacks then the visitor in the first half.  Ho Chi Minh City took the lead with the goal of striker Akinade Ismaheel. However, that was all the home team could do in that match. Goalkeeper Tuan Manh of Sanna KH-BVN excellently denied all the other chances for goals of Ho Chi Minh City players. Two goals of Duy Thanh in the 41st minute and Dai Duong in the fifth minutes of the injury time earned Sanna KH-BVN a precious victory.

This surprising result partly made the V-League 1 to be rather interesting as the season wears on. Only two points are separating the first and second placed teams. In the bottom half, Sanna KH-BVN is staying at the bottom of V-League table with 17 points. The other teams in the relegation zone, with 22 or 23 points, include Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Becamex Binh Duong, Saigon, Quang Nam, and Hai Phong. Sanna. In round 20 playing SHB Da Nang at home ground, KH-BVN will have to strive their best for three points which are extremely crucial to their survival hopes.
